Dallas on TNT

I’ve been watching Dallas on TNT and playing with the experience they’ve built around it, and I’m really impressed AND really enjoying it all at the same time.

They have character Twitter accounts, which are pretty fun.  But they really managed to step up their game with this tweet from Chris Ewing tonight:

Hilarious!  Because it so was!

They also have a fun ‘Rise to Power’ game, where you’re not only awarded points for aligning yourself with the Ewings, but also for social actions, like tweeting about the show or following show accounts.  What’s more, they provide a list of social actions AND how many points you get from them.  Points will get you sweet prop prizes!

They also have a live aftershow, which I just found out about tonight.  Tonight’s live aftershow featured Patrick Duffy and Linda Grey – interestingly, not the new talent – it seems they’re seeing the reaction to the return of the old cast and are ensuring they’re upfront.

One of the most clever things they put out was the ‘Star in Dallas’ part of the site, which allows you to connect with Facebook and use Google Maps to create Dallas credits in your hometown, starring you and your Facebook friends.  The results are pretty hilarious.

As a sidenote:  Cliff Barnes, a much beloved side character, returned last week and the actor – who is likely in his seventies – was on Twitter, and waiting for tweets about Cliff Barnes!  He (and likely his assistant) tweeted me back about my tweet, and he’s been live-tweeting the shows since.  When it’s sometimes difficult to sell people on communicating with fans, it’s great to see someone who would be stereotypically resistant jump in with both feet, and have fun with it.
